Kaiser Permanente nurse Julia Olivier makes a difference to patients and team members Receives Atlanta Business Chronicle 2019 Healthcare Hero Award in the Nurse Category

Posted in Beyond Finances on August 28, 2019

Julia Olivier began her nursing career in high school when she was just 16 years old as a Certified Nursing Assistant. And after about 40 years, her time, experience, and expertise are just a few of the reasons she was recognized by Atlanta Business Chronicle receiving the 2019 Healthcare Hero Award in the Nurse Category.

What gave Olivier a heart for nursing? She said she had some illnesses as a child and spent a lot of time at the children’s hospital.

“…and the nurses were just so nice to me,” she said. “Plus, I absolutely loved being around older people and helping them.”

Today she works to ensure the processes at Kaiser Permanente are of high quality, safe, within the scope of practice, and efficient.

Olivier said she leads a team of high performers and it’s her job to ensure that her team members across the company are cared for as they carry out their full workloads and critical deadlines, a feat that requires her to balance her own time well by keeping a detailed calendar, meeting regularly with team members individually, and also as a team to allow individual members to collaborate and to grow.

“Working with all the team members to share ideas and always learn from them as well is truly inspiring,” she said, adding that it’s “people who care coming together to make things great for the patient.”

And with her dedication, it’s no wonder she was recognized.

“I am extremely humbled and feel I’m only doing my job,” Olivier said. “It is wonderful to know how much people appreciate and care.”

Olivier stressed that it’s important for nurses to be the patient’s advocate.

“Patients are in a vulnerable place, and as nurses, we must be worthy of the trust that is instilled in our profession – every patient, every touch, every time. No exceptions,” Olivier said.

For Olivier, she said she thinks nursing is the most rewarding profession any individual could have.

“The love and kindness of people will keep you moving forward and inspire you to be your best,” she said.

Congratulations, Julia Olivier!
